Facebook announces its own smartphone
1Facebook and HTC are teaming up to create Facebook’s own smartphone which is said to be released mid 2013. Although the specs of phone haven’t been released as of yet, it is said that the phone will offer its own version of a operating system. While many think the idea of a Facebook’s phone is totally left field, the company has hired and brought in former Apple employees Greg Novick who developed the touchscreen user interface; Scott Goodson, who helped create the stock market application, and Tim Omernick and Chris Tremblay, who both worked on the device’s software. The creation of its own phone will help the company be able to tackle one of its major challenges which is said to be mobile advertising; last year the company brought in $3.15 billion in advertising (in which none came from mobile advertisement). I think that Facebook is going to be making its first steps by heading down the mobile advertising path. The company also says that it plans on improving its existing iOS app because many have complained of it moving slow or not working at all. For me, this whole Facebook idea is going to take some getting used to if it ever becomes popular.
