E3 2012: Microsoft Press Conference new Key Xbox Features Rundown [Update-Videos]
1Today, at its E3 2012 press conference Microsoft revealed that it has been testing a modified version of its Internet Explorer browser for the Xbox 360, its SmartGlass initiative, as well as new entertainment options. These new options include the new Xbox Music and partnerships with 35 new content providers including, Nickelodeon, Paramount, Machinima and Univision.
Rundown of the new Key Xbox Live Features:
- SmartGlass initiative is akin to Apple’s Airplay, as it allows users to sync their entertainment viewing across multiple devices similar. Users can begin watching a movie on their tablet or smartphone, pause at any time, and resume on their Xbox when they get home. Content creators can also use Xbox Smart Glass to display complimentary information on their smart phone or tablet alongside their television. An example from the conference featured Halo 4 and how players will be able to see their in-game stats on their tablet, updating in realtime, without need to access an in-game menu on their TV. Xbox Smart Glass launches this fall on Windows 8 and Xbox 360, with mobile Applications for Windows Phone, Android, and iOS to follow. The SmartGlass app also enables a users mobile device to become a Xbox 360 remote and trackpad.
- IE on Xbox is designed to be the first easy-to-use browser on any game console. It will be integrated with Microsoft’s search engine, Bing, as well as support for the both, Kinect and Xbox SmartGlass .
- Xbox Music- the successor to the Zune service, is a new music service, featuring 30 million songs that will be available on Windows 8 PC’s, Windows Phone, Xbox 360, as well as Windows 8 and Windows RT tablets.
